Who We Are
Founded on the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8, 2006, the GTA Prayer Foundation is a Lay Catholic Charismatic Society and a registered charitable organization in Canada. We are families, youth, newcomers, workers, and individuals united by one mission:
To praise and worship God and live a renewed life in the Spirit. Our prayer communities gather regularly for:
- Praise and worship
- Eucharistic Adoration
- Holy Rosary and Marian devotion
- Scripture reflection and faith sharing
- Fellowship and community support
Our communities are present in Alberta and British Columbia, with prayer partners in the Philippines and the United States.
The GTA Prayer Foundation is led by its Elder and Head Servants, Dr. Ernie Alama and Nick Ignacio, together with the Board, Officers, and Chapter Coordinators.
What We Do
We witness the Gospel through personal and family renewal, community prayers, active parish engagements, spiritual and social support to foreign workers and new immigrant families, and fellowship.
We may be far from being holy but we will continue aiming for it – to “walk before Him and be blameless.” Coming to the GTA charismatic prayer meeting is a spiritual enrichment. Many of us are witnesses of healing, conversion, and renewal in the Spirit that have been taking place in our communities. We enrich our spiritual life through prayer, Sacraments, acts of charity, and participation in prayer reflections and teachings.
GTA prayer communities have embraced the practice of daily family prayer. By doing so, we welcome Christ to our households. As Pope Francis said Christian families are missionary families, the salt of the earth, and the light of the world and the leaven of society.
GTA prayer communities come together weekly to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, meditate on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, sing psalms of praise and worship, share the greatness of God, and listen to spiritual input of priests or deacons and faith-life reflections of our lay sharers.
Most of our Chapters are active members of their local Catholic Church. Newly created chapters are working on integrating themselves in parishes. We support parishes through our participation in various ministries, bringing back others to Catholic faith, and sharing our tithes and love offering to the church.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Calgary Most Reverend Frederick Henry has blessed our outreach work for foreign workers in Alberta, particularly in Banff and Brooks. Our parish-based prayer communities have become channels of spiritual enrichment and ‘homes’ of Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) and their families. We provide support to TFWs in need.
Our children and youth join us at our community prayers. They pray the Holy Rosary, adore the Blessed Sacrament, and learn basic catechesis. They also lead the music ministry at our praise and worship and serve as choir in Holy Trinity Church (Calgary) and St. Mary’s Church (Brooks).
We spend time together after each community prayer, on holidays, during organized activities, and in opportune times when we can listen and support each other. This is another important aspect of our lay community life.
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
— Matthew 18:20
